English Premier League Champions Manchester City completely destroyed League One side Burton Albion 9-0 in the first leg of their Carabao League Cup semi-finals played Wednesday night.
City, playing at home at the Etihad Stadium, completely trashed Burton with no mercy, ending the game by a clear nine goals to zero, a rarity in professional football.
Burton’s fairy tale run to the semis run into a ruthless City wall with the defending EPL champions naming a changed but still strong lineup for the match.
Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus scored four of the nine goals, with Kevin De Bruyne, Riyadh Mahrez and Kyle Walker, among others, supplying the others.
City’s 9-0 win is the biggest in the competition since Liverpool beat Fulham 10-0 in September 1986.
The second leg tie comes off in Burton on January 23rd, with the winner set to meet either Tottenham Hotspurs or Chelsea in the Cup final.
