A 44-year-old man of Ghanaian origin has been arrested in the United States on suspicion of committing murder.
Daniel Kankam was picked up by police in Alexandria after the city saw its first homicide of the year, the murder of 35-year-old Somaya Hussein Ahmed.
Kankam was arrested over the weekend after Ahmed was found dead last Friday.
Police received a call around midnight Friday reporting the homicide, and arrested Kankam soon after. He was charged with the murder after his arrest.
Police say the suspect and the victim knew each other, and investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the murder.
