Ghanaian Media Killing the Industry By Focusing Too Much on Ashawobrities — Movie Producer Pascal AKA Laments

Veteran music producer Pascal AKA has complained about the Ghanaian media, claiming that they contribute towards the way the Ghana movie industry is dying by neglecting real talents and concentrating on ‘ashawobrities’.

Pascal said there are real actresses out there hustling but not receiving any attention whilst the Akuapem Poloo’s and Efia Odo’s dominate the headlines.

The actor was speaking at an industry symposium held during the week.

“Have we wondered why for more than a decade, the same old faces like Majid, Jackie, John Dumelo and Nadia are still gracing our screens?

“It’s because we are not giving much attention to true talents these days but concentrating on supposed actors who will rather show their s*xiness than talent,” he fired.

“But that is what the audience want now because it is what the media is feeding them with. Today, as a producer, you even fear to work on good material of proper intellect because you are already in doubt about its patronage since the patrons don’t appreciate quality again,” he added.

“As a producer, I want my niece to be inspired to be an actress because of good talents and not because she is inspired to market her s*xiness as an actress….That shouldn’t be the way to go but unfortunately that is becoming the standard practice projected by the media.”

Whilst it’s always easy to blame the media, it’s quite clear the kind of content Ghanaians want to consume, as aptly demonstrated by Akuapem Poloo’s instagram video racking up 1m views in about an hour, at a time hardly any blog had picked up on it.
