I Was Afraid I Was Going to Die — ‘Chairman General’ Kwame Sefa Kayi Speaks About How He Felt During Stone-Shatta Battle

Host of the 20th VGMA Awards, veteran broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi, has revealed what was going through his head during the scuffle that broke out between Ghana’s two eternal warring dancehall stars, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.

According to the legendary ‘Chairman General’, he actually feared for his life during the period of the entire incident.

As probably everyone in Ghana knows about by now, Stonebwoy drew a gun out and fired it during the 2019 VGMA awards at the Conference Centre Saturday night. He took the action during the commotion caused by his entourage and Shatta’s as the latter tried to rush the stage during his acceptance of the Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year award.

The commotion stopped the show for over half an hour before it later continued, but Sefa Kayi has revealed he actually feared for his life at the time.

Speaking on Adom Fm, he said he brought his family to have the good time and instead they were in danger due to the two artist’s childish behaviour.

“I came with my wife to enjoy the show. Young girls and boys present, Ministers of state there, British High Commissioner in attendance and you come up together with Berla Mundi as MCs for the show which was going on well and something happens and guns are pulled, you for look sharp”, he said on Adom Fm.

“I was frightened by happenings because it could have been anything. It could have turned into something very unpleasant especially when the free for all fight started on the stage. But for the timely intervention of the security and the few spirited individuals who remained calm, there would have been recorded deaths”, he added.
