The 2nd Speech and Prize-Giving Day ceremony of North Hills International School (NIS) in the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal District of the Greater Accra Region has been observed at North Legon.

The Speech and Prize-Giving Day, which was celebrated on the theme, “Developing Leaders Beyond Our Time”, saw many dignitaries in attendance, some of which were Professor Kofi Agyekum, Ag. Dean – School of Performing Arts – University of Ghana, and Dr. Adu Boateng – CEO of Endpoint Group of Companies.

In a welcome address, the Headmistress of the School, Mrs. Emma Opoku, traced the history of the school from its humble beginnings to the present day when the school has been maintaining good academic performance both in internal and external examinations, adding that it would not have been possible without the NIS tradition of discipline and dedicated staff.

She acknowledged contributions from the board of directors, parents, and all other stakeholders who have contributed to the success of NIS.

The Guest Speaker, Dr. Kwame Aveh, Senior Lecturer at Gimpa Business School, noted that the upbringing of a child was not the responsibility of only the biological parents but the school.

He commended the school authorities for a good job done in ensuring the students had the right and modern study facilities.

He appealed to the school authorities to ensure that they maintain the level of discipline in the school.

Dr. Aveh equated the level of discipline exhibited in North Hills International School to that of some highly-regarded educational institutions including Ashesi University where students are not supervised during exams, allowing then to take responsibility for their own ethical posture, and learning to do the right thing even when no one is watching. According to him, discipline was one virtue in life and a critical ingredient for success.

He used the opportunity to urge all stakeholders; including parents, school authorities, as well as Civil Society Organizations to work closely together to mould the students to enable them develop their full potentials into the next generation of leaders.

The ceremony also saw students who extremely excelled in the academic year receive 50% off tuition scholarship for the next academic year.

Other staff of the school also picked up various awards for their dedication and hard work.

The overall Best Teacher of the Year was rewarded with a fridge and a full funding scholarship to pursue her masters’ education in any accredited university of her choice in the country.

The occasion was spiced up with eye-catching performances by the pupils.
