Today marks the 59 years since Nigerians gained independence from the British but that obviously is not as important to them (I stand to be corrected) as the speech by delivered by their sitting president Buhari which many of them say is made of lies and ironies (quite a long thread on Twitter).
In Buhari’s speech, he asked that they become law-abiding as that is the only way they can attain the change they all need and deserve, how that is any funny and hilarious remains privy to them.
He said in his speech this morning; “This change can only be delivered if we are united in purpose, as individuals, and as a nation. We must all remain committed to achieving this positive and enduring change. Change does not just happen.
“We must change our lawless habits, our attitude to public office and public trust… simply put, to bring about change, we must change ourselves by being law-abiding citizens.”
All we can do here is to wish them well and congratulate them on their birthday.
