Awards Organizers and Artists; Who takes the Lion’s Share? Stonebwoy Asks Award Show Organizers

2 min

The award-winning Dancehall Musician Stonebwoy asked some thought-provoking questions on Twitter.

After the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and its associated issues, one major question that most people kept asking was who actually gains the most after an awards show? Is it the Artists or the Organizers of the show?

Well Stonebwoy asked his Twitter family.

It is a fact that Artists contribute a lot towards the success of an Awards Show. Well, they stand to gain massively from these shows as well.

To whom much is given, from him much is expected.

Let’s break it down.

Benefits of an Awards show to the nominees(Artists ).

First, a nominated Artist stands to get a lot of exposure as the show is being advertised.

Secondly, it serves as a measure of productivity for the year under review

Thirdly, at the end of the day whether a nominated Artist wins a category or not, a mere nomination is a form of motivation.

And lastly, the Awards show keeps the Artist relevant in the industry.

Benefits of an Awards show to the Organizers.

  1. Revenue from voting
  2. Revenue from the sale of tickets
  3. A business

The truth is the Organizers are businessmen. The primary purpose of a business is to maximize profit for its owners or stakeholders.

A lot goes into organization and these Organizers are not non profit making organizations.

They are actually in business to make profits so most certainly, they will gain more than the Artists.

To add to that, Artists are in a way employees of the Awarding Organization. There is no way an employee can earn more than the employer. It doesn’t happen anywhere.

Call it unfair but that’s how it works.

Efo Stonebwoy, your questions are thoughtful. I suggest that the Artists should collaborate and organize their own Awards shows.

With that, they will be at the helm of affairs and will be entitled to any revenue earned after the show.
