A Nigerian social media user has explained why Nigerians should not be surprised that Genevieve Nnaji’s movie has been disqualified from Oscar consideration.

According to him, awards like Oscars and Grammys are mainly local awards for Americans.

He cited the example of Bob Marley and ABBA, two of the greatest music acts of all time who never won Grammys to buttress his point.

Nnaji’s made news earlier today after her movie, ‘Lionheart’, was disqualified from winning the best international feature film category at the Oscars. She was disqualified because her movie reportedly had too much English dialogue.
