President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has granted Ghanaian citizenship to 126 African-American and Afro-Carribeans who have chosen to move here as part of the ‘Year of Return’ initiative.
At a ceremony held at the Jubilee House Wednesday, Nana Addo granted citizenship to these new Ghanaians.
“On behalf of the government and people of Ghana, I congratulate you once again on resuming your identity as Ghanaians,” he said.
“Your decision to be a Ghanaian citizen means that you have agreed to respect and abide by the laws of Ghana and live in accordance with the tenets of Ghana’s Constitution. You have the responsibility of preserving and promoting the image of the country whose reputation amongst the community of nations is today, high,” he added.
This forms part of activities for the ‘Year of Return’ initiative, which seeks to bring members of the diaspora back to Ghana to commemorate 400 Years since the first slaves were taken from our shores.
