Donald J. Trump Becomes 3rd Ever U.S President to be Impeached After House Vote

U.S President Donald J. Trump has become only the 3rd holder of the office to be impeached after a House of Representatives vote Wednesday night.

In a largely party-line vote, the House voted 216-197 to impeach the President for abuse of power and 229-198 for obstruction of Congress.

Democrats, who control the House, brought two articles of impeachment against Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, both of which passed.

Trump is accused of abusing his power after attempting to pressure then newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate his likely 2020 Democratic opponent Joe Biden last July.

After the impeachment inquiry began, Trump not only refused to testify, he ordered some government employees to refuse to testify or hand over any documents, leading to the Democrats adding an obstruction of Congress charge to the inquiry.

After the vote, Trump became the 3rd U.S President to be impeached following Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton.

The upper chamber of the U.S Legislature, the Senate is now expected to hold a trial to acquit or remove Trump. Considering the Republicans control that house, it’s highly likely he would be acquited of the House charges.
