Ghana’s parliament house will soon be outfitted with a curtain of bulletproof glass to heighten security, Speaker Mike Ocquaye has revealed.
Apparently the MPs are facing some sort of dangers from the public which necessitates the installation of a bulletproof glass curtain to separate the chamber from the public gallery.
A protest by the public which managed to disrupt the house is apparently part of the motivations for this extreme measure, so the rich and comfortable MPs can be separated from the poor and desperate public.
Some renovations are currently going on at the house and Speaker Ocquaye revealed the new plan whilst giving an update on what has been done so far.
“Work on the Parliament House are ongoing and progress can be obviously seen. Visitors centre is also expected to be completed early next year. It may interest members to know that the Board is seriously considering a bulletproof glass curtain to slate the gallery for the utmost protection of members while in the Chamber.” Ocquaye said.
When they need it you’re sure the money would be made available and be done quickly. When the people need it, well that’s another story.
