Majority of the Female Artists In Ghana Now Are Trash

Published by

Once upon a time there was barely any female artist in the Hiplife scene in Ghana. The only female artist of any note at that time was Abrewa Nana but she was no match to the likes of Reggie Rockstone, Lord Kenya and Obrafour. That is not to say she was not a great rapper because most of the male rappers back in the day and even now cannot go one on one with Abrewa Nana.

Whether the female artists that came after her will admit it or not, Abrewa Nana paved the way for them to get into the game. Mzbel, Itz Tiffany, Mzvee, Ebony Reigns and every other female artist today owe their successes to her.

Mzbel took on the role of the lead female artist at one point with Ebony almost surpassing Shatta Wale and Sarkodie. Since the demise of Ebony, no female artist has stepped up to the plate. Not a single female artist in the country will be ranked in the top 10 artists in the country and one might even struggle to name a female artist in the top 20 artists in Ghana.

It is a shame that all the hard work of the previous female artists is going down the drain although MzVee is one of the very few who is holding it up for the females. Wendy Shay is another musician trying hard, but she is average at best.

One can hope there are strong female artists in the pipeline ready to dominate the music scene and make the females proud.
