Old Fadama Kayayoo Goes on the Run To Escape Quarantine After Testing Positive for Coronavirus

A head porter (Kayayoo) who lives in the Old Fadama slums has gone on the run to escape being placed into quarantine.

She was tested positive for the coronavirus, but when government officials came to place her into quarantine, she simply ran away.

According to Joy News, health officials conducted a mass testing exercise at the slum last weekend.

Two people were found to be positive but despite being informed, they refused to go into self-isolation.

When the contact tracers went back there today, neither the Kayayoo or the other person who tested positive to the virus could be found.

Attempts to trace and test people who the escaped persons could have come into contact with also failed as some residents of the slum refused to allow blood tests to be taken again.

“Today, the team went back to find her but there were no traces of her,” Joy News said.

“There was chaos when we got there. Everybody was coming around to prevent the health authorities from taking blood samples of persons who had been traced,”

There was apparently even a rumour going around that the blood was being collected for rituals which was why people were stopping the contact tracers from doing their jobs.

The Kayayoo, a mother of 3, is still on the run.
