Nigerians were thrown into a state of shock when a few weeks ago, popular actress Funke Akindele and her husband were charged for organizing a party in breach of social distancing directives issued by the federal government.
The actress and her husband were eventually found guilty and sentenced to perform community service, a decision which was widely accepted by Nigerians as it sought to portray that no one will be spared for flouting the directives.
Fast forward to a few weeks later, when President Muhammadu Buhari’s chief of staff passes on, it appears the social distancing directives have been shelved, as mourners who attended the Islamic burial service, had absolutely no regard for the directives.
This has infuriated a section of Nigerian social media users who have called for the federal government to apologize to Funke and her husband for making them a scapegoat.
