President Akuffo Addo’s Address – All You Need To Know

President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, addressed the nation last night in his 7th update to the Nation since the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus.

In his address, the President touched on measures being put in place by his government to contain the spread of the virus and to mitigate the effects of the virus outbreak on businesses and individuals.

According to the President, 86,000 contacts have been traced so far since Ghana recorded its first 2 cases. Out of this, the country has tested 68,000 people, out of which 1,042 have tested positive. Of the number who have tested positive, 99 persons have recovered and have been discharged, 9 persons have died, while 930 have been isolated and are responding to treatment, awaiting the mandatory two-tests.

In view of the above, the President said he has lifted the lockdown and restrictions on the movement of people within Greater Accra, Kasoa and Greater Kumasi Areas. However, he reiterated that the ban on public gatherings still remains in force.

The President strongly encouraged the use of facemasks, while also announcing that the country’s external borders will be closed for another two weeks.

He encouraged citizens to bury their loved ones, but with less than 25 people in attendance, since mortuaries are getting full. He further pleaded with citizens not to stigmatize persons who are diagnosed with the virus since COVID-19 is not a death sentence.
