“Our Number Of Tests Conducted Contain No Duplicates” – Noguchi Contradicts Health Ministry

Professor William Ampofo, a virologist at the Noguchi Institute for Medical Research has clarified that the test figures which were put up by the President in his last address to the nation do not contain duplicates as was suggested by Deputy Health Minister, Dr Okoe Boye in clarifying concerns raised by some Ghanaians who doubted the figures put out by the government.

On Citi Fm’s point of view programme on Monday, renowned Ghanaian pathologist, Prof. Akosa cast doubts on the figures presented by the government as the number of tests carried out, insisting that those figures do not represent individuals but samples taken. He explained that some individuals are tested twice or thrice and these duplicate tests are all included in the figures put out by the government.

Reacting to Prof. Akosa’s concerns on Asempa Fm on Tuesday, deputy minister of health, Dr Okoe Boye admitted that the figures indeed included duplicates as some patients had to undergo two or three confirmatory tests. But reacting to this, Prof. Ampofo clarified that the figures they present to the government do not include those duplicates but rather it represents individuals tested.

The virologist said as of Tuesday, they had processed 76,921 samples and tested 70,921. “The backlog of a little over 6,000 will be completed by close of the week”, he added.
