4 Akuapem Chiefs Who Defied President’s Ban On Social Gatherings To Install A New Okuapenhene Fined ¢48,576

The Akropong Circuit Court has fined four Akuapem chiefs an amount of ¢12,144 each for defying the ban on social gatherings which was instituted by the President to check the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The convicts: Odehye Kofi Asiedu Adu-Mfum, 57; Nana Semeshia Ohene Asah Krofah II, 43; Ohene Nana Bennet Smith Opoku, 55; and Nana Odi Asempa Krobea Asante, 76, who all pleaded guilty to violating President Akufo-Addo’s directive, are to pay this amount or face a jail term of 4 years.

On Friday, May 1, kingmakers of Akuapem installed a new chief after the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs nullified the installation of one Odehye Kwasi Akuffu as the Akuapemhene, leading to widespread jubilation in absolute disregard for the ban on social gatherings and social distancing.
