Today 6th May 2020 marks the 70th birthday of the Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. To celebrate the revered traditional ruler, many twitter users especially natives of the Asante kingdom took to their handles to express their love for their King. This eventually sparked an Accra vs Kumasi hashtag as natives of both cities sought to claim superiority over the other.

The Kumasi folks sought to demonstrate their superiority by claiming that their King is the most respected traditional authority in the country and commands authority worldwide. They further claimed that their kingdom is the second-largest in Africa.

This infuriated the Accra folks who also questioned Kumasi’s level of development despite all their ‘rich culture’.
