Ghanian rapper Edem has revealed that his colleague Sarkodie has not made even Ghc 20,000 from royalties despite a successful career spanning over a decade.
Edem is on a roll on Twitter, fighting to reveal ‘the truth’ about how broke most Ghanaian artistes are.
In his rant, Edem revealed some facts about how music in Ghana is not as lucrative as most people believe.
According to him despite a highly decorated and successful career spanning over a decade, a great artiste like Sarkodie cannot even boast of Ghc 20,000 from royalties.
He also said Shatta Wale has not received any cash for the usage of his songs despite releasing over 300 of them.
“How can @Sarkodie span ten years in showbiz and not make up to 20 k ghana in those ten years from royalties..What do u want the artiste to live behind for their loved ones,” Edem posted in one tweet.
In another he said: “How can @shattawalegh release over 300 songs and not get a penny from it for its usage,”
Edem added the system must be fixed to enable Ghanaian artistes earn from their sweat so that they can join their colleagues around the world who are in countries with good systems which makes music one of the most lucrative businesses around.
