Ghana’s Kempinski hotel in Accra is reporting that it has lost about 5 million dollars in the last 3 months, as coronavirus has brought the hospitality industry everywhere in the world to a standstill.

The pandemic has led to almost every country having locked down its airports and practising some form of social distancing, including Ghana.

According to the General Manager of the Kempinski hotel in Accra, Manish Nambiar, about just 10 out of the 269 rooms available in the hotel are mostly occupied.

He told GhanaWeb in an interview that the number of people who patronize the hotel has drastically fallen–and that the “persons who are currently making use of the hotel are those who were stuck in the country because of the ban on travels directive issued by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” the website reported.

He further stated that “We don’t have customers at this point of time. The hotel has 269 rooms and we have 10 rooms occupied in the hotel and some of the people staying in are customers who were stuck because of the quarantine because the planes not flying. Obviously, we took a humanity approach to some of that and we reduced the prices.”

About how much has been lost so far, he said the hotel has lost about 5 million dollars in the last 3 months.
