The British broadcaster reports that sources have confirmed to them that the league would return on June 17th with two fixtures – Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal.
The two games are outstanding fixtures from the last round of games played in March before the league was postponed.
“Clubs are still discussing the idea at a meeting on Thursday, but it is understood all have agreed in principle at this stage,” the BBC noted in their report.
There are 92 fixtures still to play to complete the 2019/2020 season.
The German Bundesliga was the first of Europe’s top five leagues to resume after the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, whilst the Spanish La Liga is set for a June 8th restart.
The French league has already been cancelled whilst the Italian Serie A is in discussion with governments to finalize resumption of play.
