Six Nigerian nationals have been declared wanted by the U.S government over charges of fraud and have had all their assets frozen.

The six – identified as Richard Uzuh, Micheal Olorunyomi, Alex Ogunshakin, Felix Okpoh, Abiola Kayode and Nnamdi Benson – are suspected of engaging in Business Email Compromise (BEC) schemes.

“BECs are sophisticated cyber crimes involving electronic transfer payments or automated clearinghouse transfers,” according to a statement from the U.S embassy.

The 6 are believed to have duped countless businesses and individuals via their BEC schemes.

The six have been indicted by a grand jury but are currently on the run. Authorities have thus frozen all their assets.

Charges brought against them are: 1) Conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud, punishable by up to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000; 2) Identity theft and access device fraud, each punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000.

Special Agent in Charge Johnson noted, “The FBI is working every day to disrupt and dismantle the criminal enterprises that target our businesses and our citizens. Today’s charges are another successful example of our commitment to working together with our foreign colleagues abroad and we’re sending a strong message to the criminals who perpetrate these BEC schemes. We will continue coming after you, no matter where you are. And to the public, we will keep doing everything we can to protect you.”

The case was investigated by the FBI, with assistance from their counterparts in Nigeria.
