Some unscrupulous hackers appear to have waged a war on top verified Twitter accounts in order to defraud unsuspecting persons of their hard-earned money.
A tweet sent from the verified account of former US President Barack Obama asked followers to send bitcoin into a bitcoin account, promising to double whatever they sent in 30 minutes.
Within minutes, unsuspecting people had sent their hard-earned money to the unscrupulous persons and posted screenshot evidence awaiting their returns.
Later, some Twitter users sounded an alarm over the tweets, cautioning fellow users not to send any money since it was nothing but a scam.
Twitter spokeswoman Aly Pavela said the company was looking into the issue and would have more to say later.
