Serwaa Amihere has sparked a social media furore after posting a quote about how half of all marriages end in divorce.
According to Serwaa, quoting a so-called friend of hers, marriage is a scam and half of them end in divorce anyway so it’s presumably not worth it.

Serwaa claimed she was chatting with a friend who told her: “My Childhood friend who is married says marriage is a scam and thinks in 10 years, more than 50% of marriages will end. Do you think the same?”
The post was obviously to drive conversation and it really did that with majority of people vehemently disagreeing with her.
In the western world many marriages really do end in divorce and the divorce rate is close to 50%, but it’s not much of an issue down here.
Ghanaians generally mate for life and it takes a lot to ask for a divorce.

Serwaa says her friend believes that the Western divorce practices will hit Ghana in the future – a 50% divorce rate.
Is that something you see happening because I don’t! It takes a certain attitude towards relationships to throw marriages away at the first sign of trouble and Ghanaians are just not built that way.
