A Ghanaian cleaner is facing criminal charges after deciding to steal from some money that was mistakenly sent into her account.
52-year old Comfort Konadu mistakenly received a transfer of £90,047 into her bank account from a charity known as the Royal Mencap Society which helps people with learning disabilities.
Instead of informing authorities about the mistake, she decided to transfer some of the money out of her account into other accounts including her children’s. This means Konadu was essentially stealing from the disabled.

She transferred £57,000 in total out of her account on the same day the money accidentally reached her, the Mirror reports.
Unfortunately for this cleaner she lives in the UK and not Ghana, a country where laws and systems actually work.
It didn’t take long for her to be tracked down and she’s now facing charges for theft.
Authorities managed to freeze her accounts and retrieved most of the money, but the charity has still lost over £31,000.
Konadu was arraigned before court and initially claimed she was expecting some money in her account thus didn’t know about the mistake. She later pleaded to guilty to theft.
“You have brought shame on yourself, and I dare say to your family.” the presiding judge at Manchester Crown Court told Konadu.
“This was in effect an unexpected windfall into your bank account. You ought at that stage to have reported it to both your bank and to Mencap. You fell prey to temptation and acted dishonestly.
“You leave this court with a stain on your character.” he added.
The cleaner has been received a 20motnh suspended prison sentence whilst an enquiry has been launched into how the mistake occurred.
