African Leaders And Personalities Who Have Died From COVID-19 – Photos

Globally, the Coronavirus has reached 52.3 million cases with over 1.2 million deaths. The story is similar in Africa and across other continents.

Many great people have lost their lives to the novel virus and many left on their hospital bed struggling to survive.

Africa has seen the painful exit of politicians former presidents, lawmakers and entertainers. Below is a list of top personalities in Africa that have died from the virus.

5. South African Queen, Queen Noloyiso died on July 9, 2020 following a short illness.

The government confirmed the sad news and extended condolences at the passing of Regent of the Royal House of the amaRharhabe, Queen Noloyiso Sandile.

4. Nigerian Chief of Staff and top Presidential Aid Mallam Abba Kyari

Abba Kyari

Abba Kyari was the Chief of Staff to Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari. He died on Friday April 17,2020 after he was diagnosed with Coronavirus.

Spokesman Garba Shehu posted on social media: “The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari. The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.”

3. Former General secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John

Sir John was 77 years when he dies from COVID-19 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on July 2nd, 2020.

2. Burundi president Pierre Nkurunziza

55 years old Pierre Nkurunziza was stepping down as President of Burundi when he met his untmely death. The cause of death still remains unclear as many suggest he died from heart attack and others say it was Coronavirus.

He died on Monday June 8, 2020.

1. Former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has passed on died today, Thursday, November 12 2020 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Reports have it that he succumbed to COVID-19.
