Long time spokesperson for former President Jerry John Rawlings, Kofi Adams, has debunked rumours that the former Ghanaian leader died due to COVID-19.
According to Adams, Rawlings was being treated for malaria and had some minor heart issues as well before he passed.
Adams was responding to rumours that Rawlings had died after contracting the coronavirus.
“As far as I know, he was just treating Malaria, COVID-19 is nowhere near any of the reasons why he was hospitalized,” Adams told Citi TV’s Umaru Sanda.
“If it was COVID, we know where that treatment centre is, so he would have been sent there and doctors who attended to him would have done so fully protected with the appropriate protective wear but that was not the case.”
Asked why Rawlings was sent to Korle-Bu’s Cardiothoracic centre is he was suffering from malaria, he said it’s because Rawlings had previous heart issues.

“He [Rawlings] had complained of heart problems…and he has indicated that his pacemaker had been worked on, and he opened up on this health issue in an interview before, but things were normalized”. Adams added.
Ghana’s longest serving head of state Jerry John Rawlings shockingly died last week at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
