Uganda Elections: Ballots Being Counted Amid Government’s Internet Shutdown

Counting of ballots for the Ugandan election which closed yesterday evening is still ongoing despite the fact that government has shut down the internet in that country.

Ugandan President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni faces stiff competition from singer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Bobi Wine is said to be leading so far as ballots continue to be counted despite desperate attempts by the incumbent President to use the military and other security agencies to turn things around.

Despite an internet shutdown in the country, Bobi Wine managed to make a statement on Twitter describing the elections as fraught with fraud and violence.

The former singer tweeted, “Despite the widespread fraud and violence experienced across the country earlier today, the picture still looks good. Thank you Uganda for turning up and voting in record numbers.”
