RIP OFF ALERT: Ghana’s Airport COVID-19 Test to Cost A Maximum of $50 If You Are Travelling From ECOWAS Country But $150 If Travelling From Non-ECOWAS Country

This is somewhat discriminatory and suggests that the test we are being charged 150 dollars for, should be less than 50 dollars.

“The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has capped at $50 the cost of COVID-19 PCR test for nationals travelling within the region. This was agreed at the 58th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS held on Saturday, January 23, 2021, via video conferencing,” CITI FM has reported.

The report adds that “A communiqué issued after the meeting said, “The Authority approves the harmonised ECOWAS Protocol for cross-border movement of persons and goods during the pandemic and caps the cost of COVID-19 PCR test for travel within the region by ECOWAS nationals at a maximum of US$50.”

Why should a Nigerian coming to Ghana pay only as much as 50 dollars and a Ghanaian travelling from the UK to Ghana pay 150 dollars?

What’s the justification here–that ECOWAS will subsidize the cost of the PCR test for those travelling within its region or what?

It seems we’ve been long cheated by being charged for 150 dollars for a test that many said should cost between 20 to 50 dollars. And our President was at the meeting that agreed to the maximum of 50 dollars charge per PCR test.

In October and December, I travelled to Ghana and paid a total of 300 dollars for 2 tests at the airport. I feel cheated.
