STONEBWOY: The Messiah Breaking Boundaries With African Dancehall

From a humbling beginning Livingstone Etse Satekla, better known by his stage name Stonebwoy was born on March 5 1988 in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region of Ghana.

Stonebwoy realized his talent at a young age and began harnessing his abilities as a lyricist and scriptwriter as far back as the fourth year in primary school.

It was not after he was discovered and brought to limelight by dancehall musician Samini that the gifted musician started gaining the attention he deserved.

Under High Grade Family owned by musician Samini, Stonebwoy recorded his first hit single “Climax” featuring Samini and subsequently “Ghetto Love” featuring Irene Logan. Both songs earned him many recognition and nominations even at the Ghana Music Awards.

In 2012, he released his debut album “Grade 1 Album”. The album contains seventeen tracks which featured prominent Ghanaian artists.

Nine years down the line, Stonebwoy has 4 studio albums to his credit, many awards and has become a global brand mentioned among the top dancehall musicians to emerge from Africa.

His Angloga Junction Album released in 2020 featured international musicians like Keri Hilson (US), Nasty C (SA), Diamond Platinumz (Tanzania), Alicai Harley (Jamaica), Jahmiel (Jamaica), Zlatan (Nigeria), Kojo Antwi (Ghana), Chivv (Netherlands) and Spanker (Netherlands).

Stonebwoy has been described as the king of reggae and dance hall artists in Africa by Jamaican Dancehall musicians like Sean Paul, Buju Banton and Beenie Man for his unique talent and skill.

He is the CEO of Burniton Music Group. He won the Best International Act: Africa category at the 2015 BET Awards and was nominated for the same category in 2017. He won Artist of the Year at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards and also a recipient of two Billboard plaques.

A huge place, with over 50 countries, full of potential, Stonebwoy sticks out Unique among names like Burna Boy, Shatta Wale, Patoranking, Buffalo Soulja from South Africa due to his consistency and diversity.
