Grammy 2021 Proved ‘Already’ Is A Joke – Shatta Wale Would Never Win Any ‘Proper’ Award Until he Stops Writing Garbage Lyrics

Shatta Wale is never winning any ‘proper’ award until he stops writing garbage lyrics and passing them off as songs.

On Sunday night at the Grammy awards, the huge gap between Ghanaian and Nigerian songwriters was put on full display as Burna Boy and Wizkid went home winners whilst Shatta Wale and his colleagues watched at home.

Forgetting Burna Boy for a second, whose achievement was all on his own, let’s take a look at the two Africans who had a chance to work with Beyonce and the completely different results they both achieved.

Wizkid and Wale both appeared on Beyonce’s ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ album. Both had a chance to work with Bey and sell Africa to the world.

Wale and Wizkid thus got the same opportunity.

But the end result is that ‘Brown Skin Girl’ has become a cultural, commercial and critical hit whilst “Already’ is one of the most forgettable songs on the album.

That was proven last night when the Grammys recognized ‘Brown Skin Girl’ whilst ‘Already’ was thrown in the trash.

The difference between the two songs is story. Shatta Wale’s weakness throughout his entire career has been that he’s a bomb songwriter.

Wale has plenty of strengths – he’s electric, he’s charismatic, he engenders fears loyalty from fans, he’s brash, a king at gathering attention through controversy and he can make hits songs in his sleep, but what Wale lacks is the ability to tell a story through song.

Throughout his career, Wale’s other strenghs have carried him and made him arguably Ghana’s most successful artiste of the current generation. However we all laugh at his songs, even though they become mega hits, because most at times the lyrics are trash.

Songs like ‘Kpuu Kpaa’ embody this perfectly. The song is entirely noise yet becomes a hit because it’s from Wale. Throughout his entire career, you can say Wale has told a perfect story through song in about 10% of his songs.

So whilst he can be a hit in Ghana with such tracks, and even on the continent, he can never achieve what Wizkid and especially Burna Boy just achieved unless he learns to actually write lyrics which tell a story.

Can you imagine a Shatta Wale album winning at the Grammys? Yeah right!
