Government Approves Waste Of Ghc 178m To Construct 275 Constituency Offices For MPs At Ghc 650,000 Per Office

The government of Ghana has allocated an amount of Ghc 45.5m in the latest budget to construct offices for Members of Parliament in their constituencies.

The amount would be used to construct offices in 70 constituencies for their MPs.

The Parliamentary Service intends to complete construction of these offices by 2024 for all 275 MPs, with each office at an estimated cost of Ghc 650,000, according to reporting by Citinewsroom.

Total cost of construction would thus be pegged at just north of Ghc 178million.

This luxury construction of offices for MPs comes at a time when the government has sharply increased the tax burden on Ghanaians, in the midst of a pandemic, on the excuse that we’re broke.

Free electricity and water some Ghanaians enjoyed during the pandemic now has to be repaid by all of us under heavy new taxes.

Yet the same government asking Ghanaians to pay back for being given social interventions during a pandemic has easily approved this gargantuan amount for this project.
