On Monday April 12, 2021, it was announced by Twitter that they will be choosing Ghana as the first African country to hold its Headquarters for the social media platform.
A statement released by CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey described Ghana as the gateway to Africa saying, “Today, in line with our growth strategy, we are pleased to announce that we are building a team in Ghana. We need to further immerse ourselves in the rich and vibrant communities that set the tone in day-to-day discussions across the African continent”
“The choice of Ghana as the headquarters for Twitter’s operations in Africa is GREAT news,” tweeted Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, hailing “the beginning of a beautiful partnership,” it stressed.
President Nana Akuffo-Addo said, “The choice of Ghana as HQ for Twitter’s Africa operations is EXCELLENT news. Gov’t and Ghanaians welcome very much this announcement and the confidence resposed in our country.”
“As i indicated to in our virtual meeting of 7th April 2021, this is the start of a beautiful partnership between Twitter and Ghana, which is critical for the dev’t of Ghana’s hugely important tech sector”.
This new development has angered our neighboring country Nigeria who thought the headquarters should have been in their country because they are “somewhat better” than Ghana.
