Mary Daniels, the Nigerian amputee pure water seller who became a social media sensation after being spotted hustling hard on the streets, has come out to reveal why she lied about her background.
The money raised by Nigerians to be handed over to Mary has been seized by the authorities after it was discovered she lied over some parts of her history.
The Lagos State government witheld the donations from being given to her after she was discovered to have lied about parts of her history.
The lady claimed that her legs were amputated after she was involved in an accident which killed everyone on board, including her parents.
She claimed that she was left with a child and her grandmother to take care of, forcing her to become a hawker.
However, it turns out her father is alive and her leg was amputated from birth.
After the money was seized, Mary came out to explain why she lied and to beg Nigerians for forgiveness.
“Nigerians should forgive me. People that stay on the streets and in noisy places, they hardly have a settled mind and I said my father is late so Nigerians can help me. I made a big mistake; Nigerians should please forgive me,” she said.
Mary added: “My father abandoned me since I was involved in this accident, there was no one to take care of me, nothing! That was why I said he’s dead. But my mother is truly dead. I had an accident truly; I was not amputated from birth,”
