Finally Caught! – Nigerian Musician Sues Kuami Eugene Ghc 120,000 for Stealing his Song

Kuami Eugene has been playing a dangerous game with the way he allegedly steals songs from other singers.

Eugene often ‘samples’ from others for his songs but often he does it without permission. If he’s later caught, he claims music is all about inspiration and he was just inspired by that song.

He has been caught in that circumstance too many times for it to be a coincidence – he is kind of a song thief.

Finally, someone is ready to take him on in court for his actions as a Nigerian singer has dragged him before the Accra High Court.

The Nigerian singer, Ottomi Patrick Akhere aka Oduma Essan, claims that Eugene stole the concept and elements of his single ‘Show Body’.

Essan says he released his song ‘Show Body’ in July 2020 and followed up with a video in September 2020.

He also says he spent good money promoting the song in both Ghana and Nigeria.

About a month after he released his song, Kuami Eugene also released a single and later music video titled ‘Show Body’.

He says Eugene’s work is a ‘reproduction or duplication’ of his work, raising different ways in which the two songs are similar.

He claims Eugene ‘plagiarised’ the title, and stole elements of his lyrics and visual imagery for the video.

Essan says his song was going well until Eugene released his version featuring Falz and since then theirs has taken all the shine. He says if people google the song his own doesn’t even come first even though he is the original author.

He is requesting Ghc 120,000 in damages for costs including video production, sound engineering, mixing, and promotion of the song in both Ghana and Nigeria.
