‘Queen of Ghana Music’ Wendy Shay has still not got over her big loss at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
Wendy Shay is giving off bad energy and speaking out of pain at interviews that some of artistes who won awards at the VGMA did not deserve the awards they won.
According to Wendy Shay, Award schemes in Ghana are tailored to please artistes who are favorites of industry players and gatekeepers but not artistes who truly deserve to be awarded.
She explained to Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM that there are two distinct types of artistes in the music industry in Ghana.
There are artistes in the industry who put all their sweat and blood into their craft but are not recognized by award schemes and there are artistes who are most loved and tagged as favorites in the industry.
These industry favorites sweep away all the awards at Award shows leaving nothing for those who worked hard for it.
Wendy Shay listed herself among the former and said that no matter how hard she works, her craft is not recognized by award schemes.
The Rufftown Records signed artitse was nominated for the Best Afropop/Afrobeat artiste of the year and her song “Emergency” featuring Bosom P Yung was also nominated as the Best Afrobeat/Afropop song of the year but she walked home with an empty bag.
The Uber Driver singer said she knew very well she would not walk home with an award so she did not even bother her fans, the Shay Gang, to vote for her.
Wendy Shay is not the first musician to have made this statement, some Ghanaian musicians like Flowking Stone and co have alleged that big award schemes like VGMA are organized to please a selected crop of artistes.
Flowking Stone, who has been doing exploits in music received no nominations and he went on social media to tag the VGMA as ‘still corrupt’.
