Canadian authorities have fined two travellers who entered the country with fake vaccination and testing papers.
The two travellers entered Canada from the United States and faked their mandatory Covid-19 testing and vaccination documents.
Their deception was discovered and authorities imposed strict fines on them.
The two have each been fined 19,720 Canadian dollars (16,000 USD).
Countries around the world have implemented policies related to travellers proving their covid status before being allowed to fly in.
Recently, with the production of vaccines, travellers are also required to prove their vaccination statuses before entering some countries.
Canada requires travellers to prove their Covid-19 testing and vaccination statuses.
The two travellers faked the documents that they had uploaded to the government’s ArriveCAN travel website.
The Canada Border Services Agency discovered the fraud committed by the two, who were identified as Canadian citizens.
“The Government of Canada will continue to investigate incidents reported and will not hesitate to take enforcement action where it is warranted to protect the health of Canadians from the further spread of Covid-19 and its variants of concern,” the Public Health Agency of Canada said in a statement.
The two Canadians entered the country from the U.S on the weekend of July 18th.
Ghana has been having similar issues with travellers proving their covid status as the tests are reportedly being sold to the highest bidder in typical Ghanaian corruption style.
In recent days, a Ghanaian lady went viral after complaining about the scamming and extortion happening at the airports in relations to this covid-testing.
