Opinionated journalist Bridget Otoo joined the Metro TV news team and made just one appearance but rumor has it that she has been fired already.
According to Annan Perry Arhin, a member of the NDC communications team, the management of Metro TV was ordered to sack Bridget Otoo immediately by the Akufo-Addo government because of her constant criticism of them.
He took to Twitter to call out the NPP government for their role in the firing of the journalist. He tweeted, “Are you wondering why Bridget Otoo didn’t show up on #NewsNight at 7pm, Akufo Addo/Bawumia/Npp government have instructed the owners of metro tv to sack her with immediate effect because she bashes them and a supporter of John Mahama.”
Bridget, who was fired by her former employer TV3 for allegedly being unprofessional and indisciplined is no stranger to controversy. However, the move by Metro TV to fire her on orders from the government has riled the public up and highlighted the notorious NPP government’s efforts to stifle free speech in the country.
Metro TV, one of the oldest TV stations in the country has come under fire for swiftly kowtowing to the government’s demands with no hesitation. Bridget Otoo as an addition to the news team was met with a lot of good cheer as she was expected to bring a different kind of energy knowing her journalistic style.
The NPP government is only making themselves more unpopular by the day with the way they are going about governance, and today’s Fix The Country demonstration will probably get them to realize just how displeased Ghanaians are.
