My Daughter Completed Uni and Got A Job In 3 Days in America But Graduates Are Unemployed for Years in Ghana – Ken Agyapong

Honourable Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central and craziest MP in office, has bemoaned the youth unemployment situation in Ghana.

According to him, watching how the system works in the United States versus Ghana makes him feel very guilty.

Kennedy Agyapong was speaking on his television channel Net 2 TV and addressed the canker of youth unemployment in Ghana.

The issue has reared its ugly head again considering that recent graduates just finished their national service and most of them would be joining the unemployed labour force.

It is almost a ritual in Ghana – a small percentage of those who carry out their service get retained by their employers, a few others are lucky enough to find a job somewhere but the majority would be going to sit at home with no prospects.

For many of them, it would be years before they find a job – that is if they are even lucky!

Meanwhile, according to Kennedy Agyapong, one of his daughters completed her education at an American university and had a job lined up for her already in a few days.

He says he feels guilty about that and hopes Ghanaian leaders find a way to address that challenge.

“I don’t understand that a Ghanaian completes university and would not get a job meanwhile my daughter graduated [in America] on Saturday and gets a job by Tuesday.

“I feel so guilty about this, I feel so guilty so we should come together and change the system,” he said.

Reactions to the post rubbished Kennedy’s point because social media users say his daughter would get a job that quickly even if she’s in Ghana because he’s so privileged.

Whilst that is definitely true, it doesn’t change the truth in what he said – the system here is not working just as Twene Jonas always says.

The issue is Kennedy is part of the problem because he has been an MP in Ghana since the days of Adam – if something is wrong as he’s clamining then he has done nothing to get it solved!

Rather than sitting on tv and talking to garner sympathy, he should galvanise his fellow lawmakers to think of ways to solve this issue.

That is more useful to us than his guilt!
