Mahamudu Bawumia is a Ghanaian economist and former central banker who serves as the 7th Vice President of Ghana in the 4th Ghanaian Republic.
He assumed office on 7 January 2017.
In 2024, Veep Bawumia looks to come from behind, jump a long queue of potential presidential aspirants and hope for endorsement as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This ambition will come at a high cost if he has to achieve it by all means.
The glaring reason is that there is a certain Alan Kyeremanteng; who has sacrificed his tenure too many times, and he is likely to oppose Dr Bawumia as flag bearer.
However, Mr Kyeremanteng won’t be Dr Bawumia’s only obstacle. Over the years, the current Veep of Ghana has carved a mediocre image for himself.
For this reason, a notable personality of Ghana’s biggest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says that image makes Dr Bawumia unfit for the presidency.
Explaining his reasons in an interview, Dr Tony Aidoo rhetorically asked, “who wants to vote for a person who has proved himself to be a liar?”

In Dr Tony Aidoo’s perspective, Dr Bawumia’s biggest hurdle is his crisis of credibility.
These are how Ghanaians reacted to Dr Aidoo’s comments.
