In a video posted by Ghanaian celebrity blogger Ameyaw Debrah via his Twitter page, the blogger sought to either educate or promote the E-levy taxes.
Ghanaian Netizens on Twitter decided to go with the latter.
The celebrity blogger asked ‘Why the E-Levy’ while including the hashtag #ElevyForDevelopment.
From all indications, the question precedes or prepares viewers of the video for an attempt to reorient Ghanaians on how they view the E-Levy currently.
See the video below.
Reacting to the video, Netizens blatantly suspected foul play as they went straight for the head of the blogger.
The E-Levy has been the centre of debates all over the country ever since it was introduced to the Ghanaian people as a way to get Ghanaians to pay taxes.
Many have described the levy as a ‘killer tax’ and a lazy approach for government to generate income for nation-building.
The public sentiment out there is indeed clear: Ghanaian hate the E-Levy and would fiercely destroy anyone who leans towards supporting it.
A salient example is Cwesi Oteng’s recent experience after he was recorded supporting the government’s decision to tax the capital of Ghanaians.
It is unclear whether or not the government can get this levy accepted. However, Ghanaians fear losing their monies to the government if the levy goes through.
