Many actors come and go in our movie industry. While some leave because of old age, others leave our screens for a higher calling from God almighty.
Today we’ll take a look at top African movie stars who answered the call from God and became pastors.
In Ghana, there are about 3 movie stars who became pastors while Nigeria had over 8 Nollywood stars who left acting to become Christian evangelists.

Eucheria Anunobi
Eucheria Anunobi is a Nigerian actress and movie producer famous for her ‘high-class’ role in a movie titled Glamour Girls and Abuja Connection. She became an ordained evangelist on 5th February 2012 at the Fresh Oil Ministry Church, Egbeda, Lagos State by Pastor Psalm Okpe after giving her life to Christ. Her actions took the world by surprise but she stated that being a pastor will not stop her from playing promiscuous roles.
Eucheria Anunobi is now a full-time minister of God who rarely acts. She now uses her social media pages to counsel the youth and travels to spread the word of God to lost souls.
Majid Michel
Majid Michel is a popular Ghanaian actor who gained the nickname ‘Ladies Man’ because of the romantic roles he played in movies. Many say he holds the record for kissing many lips in movies.
Majid has starred in movies across Africa, including Nigerian where he made his Nollywood debut in the 2009 romantic drama, Emerald, playing a leading role alongside Genevieve Nnaji.
Unlike his other Nollywood counterparts that quit acting completely after giving their life to Christ, Majid Michel still acts but is very selective with roles. He now joggles his acting career with his ministry and he does that seamlessly.
Majid has been seen on countless occasions ministering at churches and performing deliverance on people since October 2016.
Patience Ozokwor
She has played a witch, a wicked mother, a ruthless in-law, and every inhumane role in movies. Veteran actress Patience Ozokwor is someone you wish never to have as a mother-in-law in real life if you watch her movies.
She dabbles in many things aside from her acting career. She is a producer, fashion designer, and gospel singer. In 2019, she was seen ministering in a church in Lagos, St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Alaba, Lagos State.
We cannot certify if she has totally abandoned acting for evangelism or plays both roles but she occasionally ministered about personal her life and personal encounter with Jesus Christ.
Timothy Bentum
Timothy Bentum disclosed in an interview that he became born again after the angel of the Lord visited him while on his way to the ghettos to smoke weed.
” One Sunday morning, I was walking to the ghetto to get some cocaine, and then I met a friend who used to come to my house to eat. He was going to church with his wife and kids and then I wondered what had changed for him because we used to be together?
“The devil has a cunning way of stealing you away so slowly that you don’t know how fast or far you have fallen until the light of God comes through. It always starts with a little desire for something and then you realize you are craving for it the more. “That morning, there was a blast in my head. I went back home and I cried. I told God that if He could hear me, then it was time for Him to take me back. God came through for me,”
Zack Orji
Nigerian actor, director, filmmaker, and movie producer Zack Orji came into the spotlight in 1991 after starring in a movie titled Unforgiven Sin. He rose through the ranks and became President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN at some point.
He, for one, used to play Zack the role of a Pastor in many Nollywood movies so it did not come as a surprise when he left the cameras to become a pastor. He was later ordained as a full-time evangelist at the Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI).
Kanayo O Kanayo
Famed for his roles as money ritualists, no one expected Kanayo Modestus Onyekwere aka Kanayo O Kanayo to become a preacher of God.
The veteran Nollywood actor has been spotted preaching the word of God at Christ Mission Worldwide Church in Egbeda, Lagos State a couple of times. Kanayo O Kanayo has however left the movie scene for full-time gospel ministry.
Pascal Amanfo
News of Pascal Amanfo’s ministerial assignment went viral in 2015 after the award-winning film director and actor decided to join Pastor Brian Amoateng’s IYES program. Pascal Amanfo disclosed at that time that he will be concentrating on living a life that pleased God and has never turned back.
Kenneth Okonkwo
Not many people know Kenneth Okonkwo, the star-studded actor, is a trained minister of God. He attended the Nigerian Bible School, where he studied Theology.
Aside from his bible knowledge and prophetic mandate, he also obtained a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the prestigious University of Lagos, Unilag.
