A document containing detailed information on huge sums of money some Ghanaian lawmakers have received as Ex-gratia in the past four years is causing a stir online after it was leaked.
Few days ago, the topic of ex-gratia became loud in the news has after Togbe Afede returned an amount of Ghc360k paid into his account by the government.
The money was paid as ex-gratia but the former leader of the House of Chiefs returned the money because ‘it was inappropriate and morally wrong.
He wrote a passage long explanation to shoot down the normalization of ex-gratia to government officials saying it is a waste of resources since they already receive salaries for working.
In light of this a document capturing the amount of money paid to some Government officials between 2017 and 2021 has surfaced online.
The one-page document contained the positions of lawmakers and the amount paid to them as ex-gratia for working for the country.

It captured the names of the Speaker of Parliament receiving an amount of Ghc488,456 and members of parliament receiving Ghc390,786.
These figures were calculated based on the Prof. Yaa Ntiamoah-Baidu Committee report, the document said.
Social media users have been thrown into a state of confusion after seeing the amount of money being shared to Ghanaian lawmakers.
