Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 returns on December 20th, 2023, Sony has announced to massive fan relief.
Sony made the announcement Tuesday, June 28th, 2022.
The iconic franchise was revived by director Jason Reitman in 2021.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife premiered in theatres in November 2021, grossing over $200m worldwide despite the pandemic at the time.

An end credits scene in the 2021 release hinted a sequel was in the works and Sony has now confirmed it.
The movie was penned by Reitman and Gil Kenan, who had earlier giving tiny details of the planned sequel.
“At the end of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the Ecto-1 is driving into Manhattan, returning to its home. And before anyone ever heard the title Afterlife, we called it Rust City. Which would not have made sense to anyone until they saw the movie. The code name for the next movie is ‘Firehouse,” Reitman said.
Reitman worked on Ghostbusters: Afterlife with his father, Ivan, who directed the original Ghostbusters, but he has unfortunately passed away since.
