In a December plea agreement, the former Minnesota police officer admitted to continuing to press his knee against Floyd’s neck even after Floyd lost consciousness.

Furthermore, he was given a term of 245 months in jail followed by 5 years of supervised release.

Officer Chauvin was in the courtroom when the judge read the sentence.

When he was brought in, he was dressed in an orange jail jumpsuit and waved to his mother and friends in the gallery.

In a victim impact statement, Floyd’s brother Philonise said that George was killed in front of everyone.

He accused Chauvin of abusing his police training by employing excessive force.

George’s brother also remarked how George would not be there to see his daughter grow up.

In her testimony before the judge, Chauvin’s mother, Carolyn Pawlenty, promised her son that she would see him frequently in jail.

She also hoped she would still be alive when he was released.
