‘I Had Six Miscarriages Before Choosing Surrogacy To Become A Mother’– Ini Edo

Nigerian actress Ini Edo has opened up about her personal and emotional journey with infertility, revealing that she has experienced over six miscarriages and failed in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures. In a recent episode of the reality TV series ‘Young, Famous & African’, the 42-year-old film star shared how her fertility struggles shaped her path to motherhood.

“I got married at the age of 26 because I thought at 31 I would have been done with childbearing and would have retired and focused on my career. But life did not pan out that way,” she said. “I have had over six miscarriages. I do not like to go into it. I tried. It was not a fancy way out for me. I have always wanted to do this. I have had IVF. I know what I have dealt with as a woman.”

“My journey is one that I have not really been wanting to talk about because it is personal,” she revealed. “I went through surrogacy. I never thought I would be someone who would have fertility issues. But I have had issues carrying pregnancies long-term. And it looked like it was not going to happen the way I wanted it to happen. So, this option came and I took it.”

Edo shared that after exploring various options, surrogacy became the path she chose. Although she had initially hesitated to publicly discuss this decision, she felt it was important to share her experience in the hope of inspiring others in similar situations.

In 2023, Ini Edo fulfilled her dream of motherhood through surrogacy. She also shared that her single status is influenced by her fears of dating a toxic partner.

Edo married US-based businessman Philip Ehiagwina in 2008, but the couple divorced in 2014. Today, she continues to navigate her journey toward motherhood while embracing the challenges and joys of life as a mother.
