31 Chinese Illegal Miners Deported In Zambia

blankIt seems it is not only in Ghana that the Chinese are involved in illegal mining. China’s Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday that 31 of its nationals that were being held in Zambia for illegal mining have been deported from the African country. The 31 people deported included a pregnant woman and two victims of malaria.

Although China complained that Zambia provided no strong evidence of the crimes committed but the suspects arrested, Zambian immigration chief told the media that the Chinese would have to be deported for violating the laws of the country.

Francis Xavier-Sosu Files Appeal To Overturn 3-Year Ban

blankFrancis Xavier-Sosu, a renowned Human Rights Lawyer has filed an appeal  today at the Court of Appeal in Accra to challenge a 3-year ban imposed on him by the General Legal Council.

He is seeking a declaration that the General Legal Council erred in imposing the ban on him for overcharging a client and advertising his firm on social media among other things.

GH¢50m Payroll Fraud Uncovered At Youth Employment Agency (YEA)

blankA GH¢50 million payroll fraud has been uncovered at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) after the agency conducted an internal audit.

According to the finding of the audit, the GH¢50 million is an aggregation of unearned allowances paid to beneficiaries who are not posted, funds for official use which were paid into personal accounts, as well as procurements without adherence to due process.

Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Justine Kodua Frimpong, the acting Chief Executive of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) said about 2,716 beneficiaries did not have appointment letters, while 9,442 beneficiaries were above the age required. Another group of 4,681 beneficiaries, also vacated their post, while 14,443 beneficiaries were simply non-existent.

Chinese Embassy Donates GHc10,000 And Other Items To Attorney General’s Office

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Sun Baohong has donated some items to the office of the Attorney General. The items donated which includes desktop computers, printers, UPS and a cheque for GHc10,000 is to support the Attorney General’s Office towards organizing a stakeholders’ consultative workshop, on the office of the Special Prosecutor Bill, 2017.

Bald Men Killed For Rituals In Mozambique

Police in Mozambique have warned that bald people could be the targets of ritual killings after two bald men aged over 40 were killed and their body parts taken for witchcraft.

One of them was found with his head cut off and some organs removed. The killings took place in Milange, which is in the center of the Southern African country already notorious for the killings of albinos.

Inacio Dina, the national police spokesman said, “Last month, the murders of two bald people led to the arrest of two suspects.” The suspects arrested are Mozambicans who are about 20 years old.

Police Warn Men to Be Wary of Female Rapists in Zimbabwe As More Men Are Getting Raped

blankPolice in Zimbabwe have issued a word of caution to the public to be on the lookout for a group of women who have been accused of sexually assaulting men in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare.

According to the police two separate incidents were reported last week since the last case of four women who drugged and “sexually molested” a 29-year-old man they had offered a lift last year August.

Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi, Spokesperson for the Police, said the first incident occurred last Saturday when a 37-year-old man boarded a bus with two female passengers and a male driver.

34 Captain Mahama Suspects Charged With Murder–And Were Brought to Court Today

About 34 suspects have been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Justice Ebenezer Kweku Ansah, on Monday June 5, 2017 in relation to the lynching and murder of Captain Maxwell Mahama. The suspects have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and committing murder.

The 34 suspects have been remanded in police custody to reappear on 21st June,  after Prosecutor George Amegah told the court that the prosecution would need more time to conduct their investigations.

Chief Prevents About 200 Candidates From Writing BECE

blankAbout 200 pupils from four communities at Bindi South in the Bunpkurugu –Yunyoo district of the Northern region failed to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examinations which began today, Monday the 5th of June 2017, following a misunderstanding between chiefs and regional education authorities over location of examination centers.

According to Kolan Bentuaka, a staff at the District Education Directorate, the chief of Kanbatiak which is the largest community in the area, complained about the troubles the candidate in his town go through every year to write the exams and so he pleaded for a closer examination center. An agreement was reached between the chief and the Education Authorities in the region for a new center. The new center was however sent to the Gbankoni community with center code 81410 angering the chief and some parents who did not understand why the center was given to Gbankoni instead of Kanbatiak which has larger number of registered students and infrastructure and so prevented the candidates from traveling to the new center to write the exams.

Chinese Galamsey Queen Aisha Huang And Four Others Granted Bail

blankEn Huang a.k.a. Aisha has been granted bail together with four other Chinese – Gao Jin Cheng, Lu Qi Ju, Haibin Gao and Zhang Zhipeng -illegal miners by the Accra High Court presided over by Mr Justice Charles Ekow Baiden.

The bail was granted after the court held that the state failed to prove that Aisha and her compatriots would interfere with investigations. Also the court was of the view that the state failed to prove that the accused persons were flight risk and would not avail themselves to stand trial when granted bail.

The bail for Huang was set at Ghc 500,000 with two sureties , all to be justified. The other four were each granted bail in the sum of Ghc 500,000 with one surety, to be justified. The court held that all the sureties must  be Ghanaians with their residence verified.

Former President Mahama Mourns Lynched Soldier – Captain Maxwell Mahama

blankFormer president John Dramani Mahama has expressed his regrets and condolences to the family of Captain Maxwell Mahama who was lynched and burnt by some angry youth in  Diaso a town in the Central Region where he was deployed to serve at. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning when Capt. Maxwell Mahama was on his routine jogging exercise.

President Mahama took to twitter to offer his condolence to the wife and family of the army captain.  He tweeted, ““My heart goes out to my brother, Capt. Chubby Adam Mahama (Rtd.) on the murder of his son, Capt. Maxwell Mahama. #RestinPeaceMaxwell.”

Koku Anyidoho, the Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that corruption is going to be worst under President Akufo-Addo.

He made this statement after listening to a tape on President Akufo Addo’s fight against corruption on UTV’S Adekye Nsroma programme.  He asserted that an immoral act constitutes corruption, and at such appointing 110 ministers is an immoral act that will eventually put pressure on the public purse.

On the tape, the president was reacting to the recent news of the arrest of some customs officials responsible for the loss of about GH¢1.2 billion in revenue to the state. The president added that the arrest of these officials is part of his government’s efforts to block revenue leakages at the country’s ports.
