Okyeame Kwame Foundation together with MDS Lancet Laboratories, Theobald Hepatitis B Foundation, Roche and Ridge Hospital RPD on Saturday, offered free hepatitis B screening and vaccination to hundreds of people at James Town – Mantse Abgona in Accra.
More than 500 people benefitted from the charity event. Three hundred, out of the 500 beneficiaries, will go for the additional two injections at the Adabraka Ridge hospital, free of charge, to complete the entire course.
The Rapper observed that the youth turned out for the screening this year and expressed appreciation for the turnout. “I am really glad to see most of the young people come for the screening. This is to say that the youth is giving attention to health and this also indicates that we are moving in the right direction as a people,” says Okyeame Kwame.
He also told journalists that the charity screening and vaccination project is aimed at educating people about the disease and also helping curb it.
For his part, the president of the Theobald Hepatitis B Foundation, Mr. Theobald Owusu Ansah, called on the government to give much attention to Hepatitis B.
There are many things uniquely Ghanaian which serve as a source of pride globally, Kente cloth and Adinkra symbols easily come to mind. Conversely, several uniquely Ghanaian concepts detract from the process of nation building, one of the biggest ones being the concept of Ghana Man Time (GMT).
GMT refers to the propensity of Ghanaians to attend any function as late as they can. This has become routine and so expected, that someone has taken the pain to coin a phrase to describe it, to wit, Ghana Man Time. Thus when you advertise a function supposed to start at 10:00am, in Ghana Man Time that’s closer to 12:00 noon.
It’s almost official, and you would be hard pressed to find a function in Ghana that takes off on time. The so-called big men in our society are the worst offenders, attending functions routinely two and three hours late, whether it is to prove their superiority over those ‘peasants’ waiting for them to come give their speech, no one knows. Thus the cycle goes on, people attending functions as late as they can knowing they are probably early enough to catch the keynote speech.
The solution to this conundrum is a very interesting one and one only a Ghanaian could envision. Programs are advertised for two, three hours before they are supposed to start, meaning everyone should be seated by the real start time. It’s almost a social contract, the elephant in the room no one speaks of but everyone adheres to.
When time is taken for granted in such a cavalier fashion, is it any wonder nothing ever gets done in Ghana? Civil servants view their reporting to work time in GMT, meaning the official times are routinely flouted. People in authority in Ghana are not big on consequences either, meaning people are rarely punished for the wrongs they do, so since there is no punishment why not keep flouting this directive?
Floyd Mayweather is still immature and daft even with all his enormous riches. Last month, Mayweather and rapper, T.I fought in Vegas after the latter confronted him over allegations that he has been sleeping with his wife, Tiny.

Angelina Jolie is in the news today, and it is not for her role in any new movie, or her work with victims of sex trafficking; Jolie is in the news due to a video of her taken just moments after she was believed to have snuffed some heroin.
Franklin Meyer, self proclaimed drug procurer for Angelina in the past, released the video which was taken sometime during the late 90’s of Jolie in her apartment minutes after taking delivery of a package from Mr Meyer and apparently snuffing it.
The video shows her in her apartment, looking dishevelled and haggard, talking on the phone to a person believed to be her father, Jon Voight.
Angelina Jolie has in the past often described that period of her life as ‘dark and dangerous’ and she considers herself lucky to have survived through that.
Mr Meyer said he received a call from Jolie, asking him to come visit her, which was how she got him to bring the stuff to her place.
“Angie was a client of mine for several years. I sold her heroin and cocaine. One day she called me up and wanted me to drop by her place; that was her way of telling me she wanted me to bring her drugs”
As the search for Hiplife musician Castro De Destroyer and his alleged girlfriend – Janet Bandu – continues, lot of theories are popping up. Several spiritualists are attributing the misfortune to ‘Maame Water’ (Marine god). Listening to these many theories that have come up within this few days, it is becoming very difficult for a person to choose which of these theories to believe.
Some are of the view that Castro De Destroyer and Janet Bandu are no more among the living; whilst others believe the two individuals are still alive.
The newest person to join the talk of town is Prophet Samuel Bafo, a radio prophet on Channel R. According to the man of God, the musician got drowned because of his bad or evil ways.
“Maame Water (marine god) and the sea have done nothing wrong. This is truly spiritual. I’m showing you where he has gone for Ghanaians to know the truth in this. This is a spiritual contract. He made it known that after they are back from the mission; Ghanaians will get to know the truth about the whole matter. He urged all those embarking on the search at Ada to leave the place and return to Accra because there is nothing in Ada where they are conducting the search. The longest-running beauty pageantry in Ghana, ‘Miss Ghana’ has seen turmoil over the years under different event organizing firms; from Mediawhizz Kidz to Sparrow Productions. Many had high hopes that the usual uproar that has characterized the pageant over the period would cease after the takeover by Exclusive Events headed by Inna Patty, a former winner – but that hope is short-lived.
The ‘Miss Ghana’ pageant has been thrown into a state of confusion after the organizers released a statement stripping the winner, Guisseppina Baafi off her title and all other privileges.
After thorough investigations into the impasse by Razz Newspaper, it was uncovered that the 2013 winner, Miss Baafi and the organizers have had disagreements for the past months. Investigations prove that the organizers presented the winner with a contract and wanted her to sign but after reading through it, Miss Baafi refused to append her signature to the deal. She requested to show the contract to her lawyer for guidance, a request which was flatly rejected by the organizers.
Her refusal to sign whatever contract prompted the organizers to take away some major prizes she won at the pageant including the car and the house a month ago, way before the organizers released a statement stripping her off her crown.
A ruthless Germany hammered hosts Brazil 7-1 in their world cup semi final game in Belo Horizonte.
Toni Kroos and Andre Schurrle grabbed braces, whilst Thomas Muller, Miroslav Klose, and Sami Khedira grabbed lone strikes. Oscar got the consolation for Brazil a little too late to be of any good to anyone.
The two world superpowers met for the chance to pick up the sole ticket for the final, Brazil on the hunt for their sixth title, Germany their fourth.
The build up to the game had been dominated by Neymar’s injury which ruled him out of the tournament, and Brazil appeared fired up to get the job done even without their poster boy in attendance. Defender Thiago Silva was also missing the game through suspension.
The game started at a pleasant pace, with no inkling of the unpleasant events about to unfold for the capacity filled crowd in the Estadio Mineiro.
The 11th minute was the beginning of the decimation to come, a Kroos corner evading the entire Brazilian defence to an unmarked Muller who easily tapped in.
Brazil was shell shocked, and what followed was a master class in counter attacking football such as only Die Mannschaft could serve.
First off was Klose, who got the ball off Muller from a neat little through ball from Kroos. Cesar saved the first effort, but Klose scored the rebound for his record breaking 16th world cup goal.

Miss Malaika 2013 in its eleventh edition last year saw Over 500 hundred young ladies at the audition and out of them, the final 12 were selected to start the competition. At the end of the series, Naa Oyoe Quartey was crowned Miss Malaika 2013 at a highly successful final event on October 12th.
Come Saturday July 12th, there will be yet another long awaited moment of auditions for the 12th season of the Miss Malaika Ghana beauty Pageant.
The GhOne TV premises will welcome ladies between the ages of 18 and 25 to be part of the auditions. To be part of this audition and possibly to the next stage, ladies must be beautiful, intelligent, bold, eloquent, audacious, courageous, confident, positive and assertive.
Asamoah Gyan has finally come out to speak about the disappearance of musician-Castro De Destoyer and Janet Bandu, both of whom are feared dead.
In his statement, Gyan continues to hold out hope that Castro and Janet might still be found, whilst also expressing his support and prayers to the two families involved.
The Black Stars captain is a long time friend of the musician, and was actually present during the events on the fateful day that led to the likely demise of Castro and Janet.
The Statement was signed by Anim Addo, spokesperson for Gyan and released on his official site.
If there is one thing you can trust Ghanaians to do, it is to look for underlying reasons for any event, no matter how innocuous. People are always looking for the hand of the spiritual in whatever issue that happens in our physical world.
Therefore whenever any serious tragedy strikes, it does not take long for the conspiracy theorists to come out with their versions of what happened. No person of note can die a natural death in Ghana, and in Castro’s case it has not taken long for the theory surrounding his demise to come out, and this one links several past incidents, including Castro’s ‘death’, all to Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan.

The implication here is that Asamoah Gyan is somehow responsible for all these deaths, probably to fuel his wealth. As incredulous as it may seem that someone would spend their time to make this correlation, here we have it. The question now is; is it worth our time to examine it, or dismiss it for the nonsense it seems to be: truth, or superstition?
There is a saying in the language, ‘once is an incident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern’ If three is a pattern, what is four? Looking at it from that angle, one must admit it seems curious that one person would be a common denominator at all these incidents.
Yet a cursory check at facts and the whole story begins to unravel. Isaac Vorsah’s brother died in 2010, and reports on the location of the party remain sketchy. I remember at the time of the story people even said Vorsah was the target of the food poisoning.
For the other two accidents Gyan is alleged to have been involved in, one can only classify those as hearsay. There is little information out there and statements like “he sorted out the family” are easy to make without corroboration.
Castro’s death is the latest tragic incident and we’ve already started assigning sinister motives. Gyan and Castro have been buddies forever and whilst you can never read the mind of another human, it seem somehow far-fetched to me that Asamoah Gyan can in any way be held responsible for what happened just because he was on the scene.
Ghana was eliminated from the world cup group stage for the first time in her history as the team fell limply to a 1-2 loss to Portugal.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s 80th minute goal separated the two sides after Asamoah Gyan’s 3rd of the tournament cancelled John Boye’s own goal which had given Portugal the lead.
Both Ghana and Portugal needed big wins and a stroke of luck in the other game to stand any chance of making it to the second round from Group G.
And Germany delivered on their end of the bargain, beating the USA by a lone Muller goal; but the Black Stars found the going against a Christiano Ronaldo inspired Portugeuse side a little too hot to handle.
There’s no Ghanaian football lover who doesn’t know Luis Suarez. In fact, we dislike him with a passion for his ‘hand of god’ stunt against us.
That doesn’t rubbish the fact that he is a classic player well loved by his country because his antics no matter how unprofessional, always favour his team. The player seems to have bitten more than he can chew recently when he decided to bite fellow player Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during a game.
FIFA is taking quick action and has responded with a suspension from 9 games and a 4 month ban. Inevitably taking him out of the present world cup journey.
Suarez is banned and restricted from entering any stadium or participating in any football related activity for the four months of the ban.
The suspension takes immediate effect. According to GFA, Kevin Prince Boateng’s indefinite suspension is due to vulgar verbal insults he threw at the Black Stars coach-Kwesi Appiah during the team’s training session in Maceio this week.
Kevin Prince Boateng who has already left the team’s camp have had his accreditation for the 2014 World Cup withdrawn with immediate effect.
Kevin Prince Boateng has confirmed he has been sent home but denied the charges, telling the German magazine Sport-Bild: “Sulley Muntari and I were just joking around, and the coach stopped the session and sent us back to the changing room.
“Afterwards I went to him and asked what he had against me and he started yelling. He insulted me. There were words like: ‘Fuck off’.”
Boateng added he “absolutely accepts” his suspension, but added: “No-one should think I insulted the coach. I’m travelling now, and I wish my colleagues all the best for the match against Portugal.”

Though what must have caused the Sacking of Sulley Muntari and Kevin Prince Boateng has not been confirmed yet, we hear Sulley Muntari’s assault on the owner of Medeama-Moses Parker Armah (Black Stars committee member) over a confrontation is what fetched him the boot.
During a back and forth confrontation between Medeama owner-Moses Parker Armah and Sulley Muntari, “Sulley, who overly got furious over Moses Parker’s comment on an issue they were discussing, rushed on the Medama bankroller and punched him on the face”.
