USA 2-2 Portugal: Late Silvestre Varela Goal Keeps Black Stars in The Competition | Permutations for Ghana to Qualify

Ghana Black Star
Ghana Black Star

The Black Stars came within 60 seconds of elimination as Portugal needed a 5th minute stoppage time equaliser to draw 2-2 with the USA.

In the 4th game of Group G, Ghana needed Portugal to beat the USA but it turned out nearly the opposite and now Group G’s last round of games would contain several permutations on who is likely to qualify.

Portugal took the lead as early as the fifth minute when Nani pounced on a defensive error to slot home past Tim Howard.

Portugal remained on the ascendancy but failed to add to their tally until the USA took over the game in the second half.

Goals from Jermain Jones and skipper Clint Dempsey meant that all of a sudden everything was going off-script for the Black Stars.

It took until the 95th minute, when a curling Cristiano Ronaldo cross was met by the powerful head of Silvestre Varela to keep the stakes as high as it gets heading into the final Group G games on Thursday.

Now a win would have suited the Black Stars much more but minus that, the draw is not a bad result and it requires certain swings in the last game for Ghana to make the Round of 16.

The FIFA rules stipulate that the criteria for qualification go hierarchically, Points, Goals Difference, Goals scored, then head-to-head.

As it stands, Germany has 4pts and a +4 goal difference. USA has 4pts and +1, Ghana 1pt and -1, Portugal 1pt and -4.

For Ghana to qualify, we need to beat Portugal, Germany beats the USA, and the goal differential should swing in our favour. Between the two games there should be a three goal swing; so Ghana win by two goals and USA lose by one, or we win by one goal and they lose by two.

A draw between Germany and USA means Ghana and Portugal will be both out. One thing we should note is the Germans have history with this kind of situation, as they beat Austria 1-0 in 1982 to eliminate Algeria with both sides barely playing after the goal in the 10th minute. The US coach is also German legend-Jurgen Klinsmann.

Take a Bow: ‘Local Coach’ James Kwesi Appiah to Debut on the World Stage-World Cup 2014 | ‘The Black Man is Capable Of Managing His Own Affairs’

James Kwesi Appiah
James Kwesi Appiah

When the Black Stars line up late tonight to take on the might of the United States of America, a little bit of history which is being threatened to be overshadowed by all the brouhaha of a world cup is going to take place. For the first time in the history of Ghana, the Black Stars are going to be led by a black man on the world stage, at the senior level.

Admittedly ours is a short romance with the world cup, this just being our 3rd tournament overall, but this does not in any way diminish the significance of the occurrence. Ghana’s first president Dr Nkrumah is amongst other things, famous for his utterance that “the black man is capable of managing his own affairs”. And after trusting in the white man to take us to our first two world cups, Kwesi Appiah was given the chance and has, rather spectacularly, led the team to the world cup in a manner more flamboyant than either of his predecessors could manage.

We have a rather unfortunate tendency in this country to dismiss the value of our own products, and this pertained to our choice of a national team coach for a long time. Which is why the exploits of Kwesi Appiah should not be glossed over, as in being successful he makes a case not only for himself, but for all local coaches and for our ability to perform just as well as the foreigner given the right conditions.

Kwesi Appiah’s initial appointment was met with incredulity and indifference by a large section of the Ghanaian public. There were those who believed a local coach was the way to go, but Kwesi Appiah himself was largely untested as a manager at the top level. Admittedly, he had been assistant coach of the Black Stars for several years prior; this did not however diminish the calls of his critics who felt he was entirely out of his depth.

Finding the ‘Right’ Person At The Wrong Time – To Let Go Or Make the Time Right?

Black-Couple

A friend (reluctantly) walked out of a 2 year relationship due to ‘bad timing’. After a year of dating, she moved in with the guy. When the issue of ‘when are we getting married’ cropped up, the illegal husband (oh yeah, he’s an illegal husband) said the time is not right for him even though she is the sort of woman he would like to marry. So, if I am to believe his excuse, it was a matter of getting the right person at the wrong time!

Relationships are no doubt beautiful and enjoyable, but when it gets to the complex discussion of taking it to the altar – it suddenly becomes a mystery and a puzzle.

In a hasty conclusion, I would have said Mr Man is/was trying to run or is actually out already (oh yes, you can be with someone who has long left the relationship – except they are there only in flesh). But If I should put my ‘over-thinking’ and ‘over-analysing’ cap on, situations like these do happen; you find the right person you would love to spend your time with but either they came at the wrong time (where you’re not ready for any serious commitment due to certain factors and they are) or you find them when you’ve pledged allegiance to someone who doesn’t come anywhere close to what you seek in a partner but somehow ‘stuck’ yourself there.

When relationships break down, it is because one person wanted something different. Sometimes (most of the time) you cannot hold it against them. As I told my friend, either she waits for his time or starts all over again – you cannot force something to work or force someone to do something against their wish. They may do it to please or appease you, but few months down the line; you’re on your own!

Don’t You Agree There Ought To Be Transformation in Christianity?

Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ

Aside human behaviour which is intricate, one of the most complex things to understand is religion. Without doubt, I presume everybody concurs to this assertion. Dozens of people around the world have spent years trying to understand what this whole phenomenon is about. Some claim to have come to comprehend with it whilst others on the other hand believe there is no solution to their quest.

As humans, nobody can possibly trace and find the exact time religion itself began. In Christianity, all Christians can agree to the fact that religion commenced on earth right after God created the first human beings (Adam and Eve). Religion, as one online dictionary defines it is the belief in and worship of a super controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.

Jesus Christ instituted Christianity, thereby automatically making him the leader of the movement. Anybody that followed the teachings of Jesus therefore became a Christian. During his period, there used to be a uniform way of worship that all followers of Jesus followed. It isn’t recorded anywhere in the Bible that there were divisions among Jesus’ followers concerning doctrinal issues.

Christabel Ekeh
Christabel Ekeh

Do not ask me what sort of appearance Christabel Ekeh was trying to pull in the above photo—because all I know is that, she looks like a disaster in that photo. And this is shocking, considering the fact that Christabel has a bit of style taste, compared to several of her colleagues…

Also, Yvonne Okoro for once decided to show us her natural hair and I was expecting to see her natural eye lashes too. But she still couldn’t let go her signature eye lashes—which some people say, she doesn’t look anything like we know her for without them.

Priscilla Safo-Asamoah Gyan’s Mystery Girlfriend

Following GhanaCelebrities.Com’s publication last week about a certain Priscilla Safo who popped up as the girl being chopped down by Ghanaian football star-Asamoah Gyan, several television stations in Ghana picked our report—and it seems Asamoah Gyan threw some strong words the way of Priscilla which got her upset…

Priscilla Safo who is said to be a relative of Apostle Safo Kantanka took to her facebook to throw some insults at those who did put her out there, saying, Ghanaians are fools…

Priscilla Safo-Asamoah Gyan girlfriend (2)

From her social media activities, she once endorsed Hon/Lawyer Adwoa Safo, calling her a twin sister—sort of confirming a relation.

From what GhanaCelebrities.Com gathered, the mystery Asamoah Gyan girlfriend-Priscilla Safo has worked as a vixen before in the United States—though unconfirmed. We hear Asamoah Gyan has warned Priscilla to stop the social media bragging and desist from putting his ‘stuff’ online…

Considering her choice of words, she seems to lack a lot in the world of intellect—-and must surely be in love with the money. Asamoah Gyan does not need such biatch foul mouth who calls ‘Ghanaians fools’ around.

Dude, dispose of this one quick…

What do you guys think?
