Lives of African Actors at A Big Risk – Nollywood Actor Burst Skull Open Whilst Shooting a Movie

For 4 years now I’ve been advocating for Ghanaian filmmakers to consider paying Social Security and National Insurance Trust popularly known as SSNIT (the informal SSNIT Scheme) for actors and also insure the actors they contract or cast for their movies.

Whilst some of the filmmakers pooh-poohed me for suggesting something that is not feasible, others rather threw a challenge at me; “wait if you become a filmmaker, then you can do what you are suggesting,” “it comes with cost so we can’t do it,” “what you are advocating for is not even done in Hollywood, how much more Ghana.” Those were some comments I sampled from some filmmakers I spoke to years back.

I even went further to investigate if our actors gets proper oral or dental screening before they are casted to kiss in movies and actors Van Vicker, Roselyn Ngissah, Ebi Bright, and others revealed to me that they are not medically screened before casted for roles that involve kissing.

Read below a sad story I recently read about Nollywood – Nigeria’s movie industry, of how an actor nearly ended his life in the name of acting:

SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD: Iraq Wants to Allow Girls As Young As 8 Years To Marry

Iraq kids

A law being considered in Iraq which has come under attack could lead to girls as young as eight getting married—and wives being forced to submit to sex at their husband’s every request.

Currently, the legal age for marriage in Iraq is 18, or 15 with a guardian’s approval and this could soon be changed if the law comes into force.

The controversial proposals have provoked outrage from activists both within Iraq and around the globe, who see it as a huge step backwards for women’s rights.

This law, aimed at creating different laws for Iraq’s majority Shiite population, could further fray the country’s divisions amid some of the worst sectarian bloodshed since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

According Hana Adwar, an Iraqi human rights activist, ‘That law represents a crime against humanity and childhood. Married underage girls are subjected to physical and psychological suffering.’

R2Bees-Paedae Says MUSIGA Gave Them A Car Which Is Of No Use…

Paedae

Few days ago, Obrafour mentioned to GhanaCelebrities.Com that there is no ‘music industry’ in Ghana and what we have is a pocket of musicians struggling to make  a living out of their hard work.

According to Obrafour, the lack of institutional structures in itself is an indication of a non-existing music industry and until the appropriate structures are created, Ghanaian musicians will continue to sweat for nothing.

Interestingly, R2Bees’s member-Paedae has taken to twitter today to highlight the plight of Ghanaian musicians—calling MUSIGA to sit up among others…

Check below for some of the things Paedae had to say;

” Ghana music industry does nothing for the industry/musicians. Ghana music is what it is solely because of the hard work of Gh musicians

Imagine Ghana Blackstars without GFA. Musicians are selling our country to the world through music just like football

Don’t talk to me bout musiga

Gh musicians only make money through shows and endorsements. Not cd sales nothing.Radio Tv Pubs Clubs etc play the music for their business

SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD: Phones of Passengers in Missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH 370 are RINGING?

Missing Flight

Even though search has intensified, nothing concrete has been found in relation to Malaysian Airlines Flight MH 370 that disappeared on Saturday while carrying 239 passengers. According to the Washington Post, family of some of the 239 people on board the vanished Boeing 777 said that they were getting ring tones and could see them active online through a Chinese social networking service called QQ.

One man said that the QQ account of his brother-in-law showed him as online, but frustratingly for those waiting desperately for any news, messages sent have gone unanswered and the calls have not been picked up.

This new eerie development comes as the Malaysian authorities said they had identified one of the men on two stolen European passports who were on the flight – and that he was not considered likely to be a terrorist…

Josh Laryea Schools Ghana Music Awards Board – ‘A Songwriter/Composer is a 100% Musician’ | So Akwaboah’s Nomination is Out of Order

Josh Laryea
Josh Laryea

One of the board members of Ghana Music Awards, Okraku Mantey, revealed that a song writer/composer is not a musician.

Musician Akwaboah is one of the three musicians in this year’s ‘New Artiste of the Year’ category, whose nomination has come under public censorship – calling for his nomination to be quashed because he is not a new artiste/musician.

Those who make the argument posit that Akwaboah once won ‘Best Songwriter of the Year’ in VGMA for the song “……she wrote for musician Becca; because of that, he does not qualify for the ‘New Artiste of the Year’ nomination in this year’s VGMA.

However, Okraku Mantey insists that Akwaboah qualifies because, at the time the latter won the award for ‘Best Songwriter of the Year,’ he was not a musician; instead, he was only a songwriter/composer.

To verify if there is any truth or sense in what he said, GhanaCelebrities.Com did a research.

Who is a musician (noun)? Our research gave us one of two meanings or definitions:

1 “Someone who plays a musical instrument (as a profession).”

2 “(music) artist who composes or conducts music as a profession.”

GhanaCelebrities.Com Also visited celebrated gospel musician and a certified Musicologist, Tseataa – formerly known as Pastor Josh Laryea and asked him: sir, if someone can write or compose song (s) and can play musical instruments but has not yet released a song/album, is the person not a musician or cant the fellow qualify to be called a musician.

Lupita Nyong’o Under Attack | Owner of Whitenicious Skin lightening Cream-Dencia Calls Her A SLAVE

Dencia1
Dencia

Don’t ask me what Dencia does because to be frank, I don’t know…She is part Nigerian and part Cameroonian who claims to be living the high life.

She is pretty much everywhere, doing everything that will make her famous and selling everything—even if the products will cause cancer and reinforce white supremacy, she doesn’t seem to care.

Yesterday, we reported on how Lupita Nyong’o spoke at the Essence Magazine’s 7th Annual Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon about the beauty of dark skin—and the fact that her success is greatly due to her skin color. She used her speech to advise dark skin women to be proud of their skin and not to think success cannot come their way simply because they are black.

In the speech, Lupita Nyong’o at a point said;

I want to take this opportunity to talk about beauty, Black beauty, dark beauty. I received a letter from a girl and I’d like to share just a small part of it with you: “Dear Lupita,” it reads, “I think you’re really lucky to be this Black but yet this successful in Hollywood overnight. I was just about to buy Dencia’s Whitenicious cream to lighten my skin when you appeared on the world map and saved me.”

Decia before and after
Decia before and after

Dencia who is probably living in someone’s basement at West Hollywood and also the person behind the skin lightening cream-Whitenicious, has taken to twitter to say a lot of CRAP to Lupita Nyong’o, a clear indication that, there is a big gap between a hustler and an achiever.

Check out some of the tweets Dencia sent out…
